New Jersey rockers The front Bottoms will be returning to the UK early next year with special guests The Smith Street Band and Brick + Mortar. The band have also shared second single Vacation Town off their forthcoming LP Going Grey, released on the 13 October via Fueled by Ramen.
“On the last album, we did it real rock-star style. We went out to California, we worked with a big time producer, we took a long time to do it, and that was an interesting approach but we probably are not going to approach it that way again,” Brian Sella says. “I think we’re going to try and do it more by ourselves, like with me and Matt [Uychich] producing it… That’ll be different, the whole approach of it. We just like to experiment. We’re artists and we think of these albums as art projects. It’s all-inclusive—you have the artwork, you got the name of the songs, the name of the album, you got the music—it’s like one giant art project. The way that it works itself out is a mystery, and that’s what we’re trying to find.”
Having relocated band headquarters to the coastal New Jersey community of Asbury Park during the demoing stages of the album, Going Grey sees the band acknowledging the nostalgia of simpler times with admiration, while welcoming the inevitable unknowns of life. With Vacation Town the band share more of an insight into what the new record will sound like. The track “explores the comforts of breaking from everyday responsibilities while on vacation and how that role changes when you live year-round in a seasonal destination (in your head)”, Sella explains.
