Album Review: The Wandering Hearts – Wild Silence (Deluxe)

Americana breakthrough band The Wandering Hearts have added a few new tracks to the deluxe version of their debut record.

Following their UK headline tour, including a sell-out show at Islington Assembly Hall, Folk-Americana band The Wandering Hearts have released a Deluxe Edition of Wild Silence, out now. When the band released their debut album last year, they were awarded the coveted Bob Harris Emerging Artist award at the UK Americana Awards 2018, a prize hand-picked by the legendary broadcaster himself. Bob Harris stated, “I was just blown away by them, by their harmonies, their energy, their enthusiasm and of course the fantastic quality of their music. I am truly thrilled for them and their new album is everything I hoped it would be.”

The deluxe edition of the band’s debut record includes three new tracks, an alternate version of Wish I Could, acoustic performances as well as two live recordings – talk about deluxe, what a treat! Following the album closer Iona is romance-bursting track ‘Til The Day I Die. In signature Wandering Hearts fashion, the harmonies are killer and the chorus is catchy pop Americana. Second new song on the deluxe version is Run. Here the band weave in a lot more of a mainstream pop sound while never losing sight of their roots.

Now, let’s talk about Heart Stops Beating. The Fleetwood Mac influences shines through in the verses in the shape of strong female vocals and stomping beats, you know, like that of a heart (we love a good tie in between music and lyrics, can you tell?). But more so, the track has genuine summer soundtrack potential with the feel-good melodies.

The alternate version of Wish I Could, as well as the acoustic recordings remind the listener once again why they fell in love with The Wandering Hearts in the first place. And if Wild SIlence in its stripped-back acoustic shape doesn’t give you goosebumps, we can’t be friends.

At their recent show in Memphis the band fittingly covered the great Elvis Presley’s The Wonder Of You, which is one of the live tracks that made it onto the Wild Silence Deluxe Edition, and closes out the record alongside the utterly beautiful live recording of Burning Bridges.

So if you’ve not obsessed over The Wandering Hearts yet, we do have to warn you that you will after listening to this Deluxe Edition. We ❤ it, and we ❤ The Wandering Hearts.
