London, O2 Academy Islington – January 2025
The atmosphere was buzzing on a crisp January night as New Years Day made their way to the O2 Academy Islington, but before Ash Costello and the crew took the stage, we got to witness two powerful openers who set the tone for an unforgettable evening.
First up was Fearless Vampire Killers, and from the first note, it was clear they were ready to captivate the room. The band’s blend of gothic rock, punk energy, and theatrical flair turned the stage into an electric playground. Their set showcased their knack for blending catchy choruses with dark, brooding atmospheres that made the crowd instantly connect. Fearless Vampire Killers made each song feel like a chapter from a darker, fantastical tale.
Following them, Conquer Divide took the stage, continuing the night’s streak of high-energy performances. The metalcore outfit’s fierce blend of heavy riffs, melodic hooks, and commanding vocals had the crowd head-banging from the first note. Tracks like “Chemicals” from their self-titled debut were a clear standout, and the band’s stage presence was nothing short of captivating. The mix of brutal breakdowns and soaring clean vocals kept the crowd fully engaged. Kia Castillo’s outstanding vocal performance truly did set the academy in Islington on fire. Conquer Divide delivered a masterclass in intensity, and by the time they wrapped up, the room was absolutely primed for the headliner.
Then, the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived: New Years Day. From the moment Ash Costello and the band took the stage, the energy shot through the roof. Opening with “Vampyre” the crowd exploded into action, and it didn’t let up for a second. Ash, in her trademark gothic glam, commanded the room with a fierce presence that felt equal parts electrifying and comforting. The crowd sang along to every word, creating an undeniable sense of connection between the band and their loyal followers.
A tour five years in the making and the crowd lapped it all up song by song. Fans are vocal in their appreciation, cheering and singing along to every track. The encore was a jaw-dropper. The crowd, still reeling from the power of the set, was treated to an electrifying rendition of “Kill Or Be Killed”, giving the night a triumphant, anthemic conclusion. As Ash and the band took their final bows, the sense of fulfillment was unanimous—the room had been completely taken over by the music.
