Not Ur Girlfrenz cover My Chemical Romance ‘I’m Not OK’

Just ahead of the band’s UK tour with Bowling For Soup and Simple Plan, Not Ur Girlfrenz cover emo heroes My Chemical Romance.

Following the reformation and recently announced stadium and festival headline appearances, My Chemical Romance (MCR) are a band that both spawned a generation and get cited as a major influence by countless bands for the last few decades. US pop-rock rising stars Not Ur Girlfrenz are not immune to the emo tinges and saw this as the ideal time to celebrate the music that defined an era.

Picking up MCR’s breakthrough 2004 track I’m Not OK (I Promise) and giving it the unmistakable Not Ur Girlfrenz styling started before the comeback, so the decision to get it recorded and accompanied by a video was a no-brainer. Taking on such an iconic song is never easy but after road testing it at countless live shows, the reaction has been nothing short of fantastic.

Liv Haynes (vocal & guitar) explains the reason now was the right time for this track :

“We’ve been playing this cover live for about a year now and always get such a great response with the fans… So we thought why not record a version in the studio? With My Chemical Romance getting back together after a 6-year hiatus it just seemed like the perfect time to recreate one of our favourite songs by one of our biggest musical inspirations.

Paint your nails black and get emo with us!”.

Not Ur Girlfrenz are back in the UK playing live this February, with Bowling For Soup & Simple Plan for a 6 date tour!
